Born in 1964 in Haida Gwaii, Andrew Williams is a carver or argillite, silver and gold as well as a graphic designer. He is part of the Raven clan in the Old Masset on Haida Gwaii. His work is a blend of traditional and contemporary art and shows his passion for his Haida Ancestry and the "old stories".

The octopus, also called the devilfish, is important to the Northwest Coast peoples. Known as a clever trickster, the octopus is considered auspicious, a symbol of wealth and is a crest of the Tsimshian Eagle clan. In Kwakiutl legends, the octopus is the guardian of the undersea village of Kumugwe, chief of the undersea world.
