Chin Strap, 4 plait
We designed this chin strap many years ago to use with Akubras with chin strap hooks. Although Akubra no longer manufactures hats with chin strap hooks (apart from the Aussie Slouch), Akubras are so long lasting and durable that we still offer this chin strap as a convenience for those with elderly hats. (We recommend our Stampede String for Akubras purchased now or in the last few years.)
The chin strap is hand braided in 4 strands of kangaroo leather, and will ensure that you do not lose your hat to a gust of wind. The chin strap has two flat leather tabs to attach to the chin strap hooks in some Akubra hats manufactured prior to 2017 and the Aussie Slouch. A sliding knot provides easy adjustment. Our own production, made in the USA.
Do you live outside the US? Due to strict US export regulations, we are only able to ship kangaroo leather products outside the US by adhering to the US Fish and Wildlife Service export inspection procedures.

Chin straps, known in cattle country as stampede strings, ensure against loss of your hat in wind or brush. Our Stampede String attaches securely with two cotter pins which slide between the sweatband and the hat body for easy attachment to a hat. The Stampede String works well with all our Akubra and Panama Hats.
