How to Use
The hat stretcher, or hat jack, may be used to keep a hat at its proper size when not in use, or to bring a hat back to size when it has been left in a hot car and the leather has shrunk a little. It is not designed to increase the size of a hat, as it will then make a bulge at the base of the hat.
To use the hat stretcher, place it inside the hat against the leather sweatband with the name showing to get the taper right and turn the turnbuckle to tighten the stretcher the desired amount. When trying to enlarge a hat slightly it is best if the hat is damp, as when it has been worn in the rain. The hat stretcher can then be used and the hat left to dry naturally. Do not try to enarge the hat greatly.
To store a hat, place the hat stretcher inside the hat and tighten it gently until it is snug inside the hat. Place the hat with the stretcher inside it on a small box or other stand so that the brim does not touch the shelf. A neat stand can be made by attaching four door stops to the stretcher.
