Merino Wool Top
This base layer is made from 100% New Zealand Merino wool which is naturally moisture-wicking, odor resistant, breathable, temperature-regulating, flame-retardant, stain-resistant, and anti-wrinkle. Warmer than Stanfield's cotton underwear and smoother and thinner than their 80/20 underwear, the Merino Wool Top and Bottoms are an excellent choice for a base layer. The long sleeve top has a crew neck, set in sleeves and a two needle hem at the waist and sleeves. The top is about 2 inches longer in the back than in the front. This generous back length, about 32 inches for a size L(42/44), will prevent the top from riding up or pulling out. Made in Canada.

More Info
Stanfield's Ltd. is a long established woolen mill, founded in 1856 in Prince Edward Island and later moved to Nova Scotia. They specialize in underwear and obtained a boost in sales with the Yukon gold rush and the Trail of '98. Today they still manufacture many of the same items.
Along with suspenders and hickory shirts, the old loggers in the Pacific Northwest wore knitted wool underwear, unsurpassed for working in damp, cold conditions. This heavy rib knit is a blend of 80% wool, 20% nylon for easy care, absorbent comfort, warmth, and longer wear. A combination of white and black yarn gives the underwear its distinctive gray appearance. It is a popular choice with outdoorsmen, both workers and sportsmen. All garments are generously sized and seams are flatlocked for extra wear.

Merino Wool
Merino wool is a very long staple, very fine wool from the Merino sheep. Merino sheep have been bred in Australia and New Zealand to produce extremely fine wool. Merino wool, particularly when twisted into a worsted yarn, is smooth to the skin. The fine fibres are soft, and the long staple gives fewer ends, reducing any irritation from loose ends.
Wool yarn for knitting or weaving falls into two general classifications, woolen yarn or worsted yarn. Woolen yarn is formed by drawing it from fibers with a random orientation, giving a yarn that is fluffy, with fibers in all directions. Worsted yarn is drawn from combed fibers, giving a yarn with fibers running along the length of the yarn, and is thus much denser and smoother than woolen yarn. Garments knitted from worsted yarn have a smooth dense fabric and wear extremely well.
