Definitions and terms
Ankle Support — A Lycra Spandex ankle support assists in keeping the sock in place.
Arch Support — A Lycra Spandex support on the ankle helps ensure that the sock stays in place. This arch support has proven very effective in reducing the need to re-position socks during arduous hiking.
Holofiber — Holofiber® is an innovative new textile that is moisture wicking, quick drying and has been shown to increase oxygenation. For more information please visit www.holofiber.com.
Sensura — Sensura® is a soft fiber with high capacity for wicking moisture away from the skin. For more information please visit http://www.fabriclink.com/pk/sensura/home.html.
Smart Compression Technology — The compression, or elastic support of the leg, may be spread out along the leg, greatest at the bottom, less towards the top. This improves circulation by reducing the pooling of blood in the leg, and by eliminating the constriction of a top elastic hem.
Sock Length — The length (in inches) from the end of the heel to the top of the cuff.
Sock Size — Numerical sock sizes are given as the length of the foot in inches. This length does not correlate precisely with shoe size, as the fit depends on both the stretch of the sock and width of the foot. J.B. Field’s wool socks are made to stretch and adapt readily. If you are at the top of the range for a size, and your foot is wide, take the next size up. If you are at the bottom of the range for a size, and your foot is narrow, take the next size down.

Tapered Leg — Tapering of the leg provides a better fit, and reduces constriction of circulation often caused by a tight fit of the top section of the sock.
Technical Sock — A technical sock is knitted on advanced machines that allow placement of different fibers and stitches by specificity. Merino wool may be placed inside the sock. Nylon may be on the outside under the boot laces as well as on the toe and heel or elsewhere. Terry stitches may be placed inside for comfort, and varied in density. Stitches may be varied to enhance air circulation.
