New Driza-Bone Items Available!

September 1, 2017

We have several new items this fall from Driza-Bone, Australia’s preeminent maker of outerwear. Driza-Bone began in the 1890s when British sailor Emilius Le Roy designed an indestructible wet-weather jacket made from recycled ship sails that were treated with oil.

Today the range covers outerwear and apparel for all conditions, inside and out, constructed for durability, comfort and protection. They are durable and work in the harshest of elements.

Bowen Weekender Bag:

The rugged and stylish Bowen Weekender Bag is perfect for a weekend getaway. You can pack everything you need and throw it in the back of your jeep and head out of town. It is made of dry-waxed cotton. Dry wax is a cotton fabric which is only very lightly waxed. The backing has a water-resistant coating. It is not as water resistant as the Desert Wax and traditional oilskin.

Newtown Knit Sweater:

The Driza-Bone Newtown Knit Sweater is identical to the Driza-Bone Nelson Sweater, except it has a 3 inch collar and a 1/4 length zip closure. It is very comfortable and functional for active wear. The 100% merino wool yarn is highly twisted for added strength and reduced pilling. The sweater is knitted in a moss stitch, adding texture and flexibility to the garment. There are elbow patches for reinforcement.

Barkly Field Coat:

The Barkly Field Coat is made of Driza-Bone’s Desert Wax. While still a waxed cotton, it has a drier feel but has all the qualities of the traditional oilcloth: it’s waterproof, wind resistant and extremely warm in cool and cold weather.

Heathergems: a Christmas Treasure

November 16, 2012

Our latest jewelry comes from the hills of Scotland, where the purple blooms of heather decorate the landscape. Heathergems are made from this well-loved plant, which is dyed and blocked into unique color patterns.

Each Heathergem is handcrafted in Pitlochry, Scotland. The heather used is too old to provide any nutrition for wildlife and is pulled in a manner which promotes the growth of new plants.

The stems are dried, shotblasted to remove the bark and dyed various colors using natural dyes. Stems of different colors are then mixed together and compressed into a block. Eighty tons of pressure is required to press the block of stems together.

The block is then cut into slices and individual pieces are cut, shaped and filed by skilled craftworkers before being lacquered to give the final finish. The Heathergem jewelry we offer are set into sterling silver fittings. Each piece comes gift boxed, with a card explaining the process used to create Heathergems.

This is a wonderfully unique Christmas gift.

September 7, 2012

We’re very pleased to present two new hats from David Morgan.

The Hampton is the latest addition to our fedora collection. It has the narrowest brim yet, stretching to only 1 3/4 inches. And, befitting of a city hat, the brim is finished. The color is a deep, rich Cedar Brown. More here.

La Nina Means Another Cold Winter

October 28, 2011

With the coming of La Niña, much of the country is set to endure another season of cold temperatures. Stay warm this winter, both indoors and outdoors, with cozy items from David Morgan.

Lothlorian's Koru Socks

Koru socks are from New Zealand and made of possum fur. The feet are padded with grips in the shape of a koru, which means, ‘fern frond’ in Maori. The smooth fibers of possum fur have hollow cores and soft pointed ends.

Possum fur blended with Merino wool and nylon gives a strong, luxurious yarn that is extremely lightweight and soft. The yarn wears well, is easy to care for and resists pilling.

Stanfield's Union Suit

Our long underwear from Stanfield’s is made of 80 percent wool and 20 percent nylon. Wool is superior to synthetics for wicking away moisture while its anti-microbial properties keep odors from building up.

These will scratch at first, but trust us, after a few washes, they’ll be soft against your skin, keeping you warm and comfortable all throughout winter.

Tilly’s Airflo: A Lightweight Hat with Superb Sun Protection

June 24, 2011

Tilley's Airflo After this year’s long winter, we’re all ready to make the most out of summer. But amidst the picnics, camping and golf, we can’t forget to protect our heads.

Tilley’s Airflo fits the bill. It weighs a mere four ounces and offers excellent skin protection with a UPF rating of 50+. UPF stands for Ultraviolet Protection Factor and unlike SPF (Sunlight Protection Factor), the rating includes standards for both Ultraviolet A and Ultraviolet B waves.

The crown contains a polyester mesh for ventilation. Tilley fabricates the sweatband with Hydrofil®, a modern fabric that keeps sweat away from your skin. The hat’s body is composed of Nylamtium®, a nylon that resists water and mildew.

The stitched brim is 3-1/2 inches on the front and back and 2-1/2 inches on the sides. You can use the adjustable ties for windy days. The Velcro closure on the small pocket in the crown safely holds a key, card, or cash.

Machine wash, air dry. Colors: Natural (with a green under-brim) or Khaki (with an olive under-brim). Made in Canada by Tilley Endurables.

New Panama Hats at David Morgan

April 16, 2010

Along with our new Tilley hats featured in the last post, we are also pleased to offer two new Panama hats.  These hats are blocked in the United States. The bodies are made of toquilla fiber hand woven in Ecuador.  They are reinforced in the pinch and at the base of the crown to help protect the hat at its weakest points. Teflon coats the fibers for water and oil resistance while maintaining its breathability.

Darwin Panama

The Darwin Panama takes the Panama down under.  Like a true Aussie hat, the brim is turned down in the front and the back.  We’ve added our own braided kangaroo hat band for a touch of the Outback.  The crown is 4 inches at the front and back, rising to 4 1/2 inches at the sides. The brim is 3 inches.

1648a

The Panama Fedora is an elegant hat at an affordable price.  The snap down brim has a thin hidden wire at the edge to retain your chosen brim shape.  The brim is 2 1/2 inches and the crown peaks at 4 1/2 inches.  The black grosgrain hat band holds a removable feather.
